Origin: Africa (incl. Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Ghana, Benin, Uganda, Somalia, Oman)

The addition “cf.” (confer) indicates that the exact species identity of this carpenter ant has not yet been conclusively confirmed, although these ants are very closely related to Camponotus carbo. It is a large-headed, robust Camponotus species from tropical-subtropical Africa.
